Description: Bed bugs are extremely small, measuring only about 4 to 5 mm in length. They’re flat, reddish-brown and shaped like an oval. As they feed only on blood, they will have a swollen reddish appearance after they have consumed blood.
Biology: The typical lifespan of a bed bug ranges from four to six months but they are able to live up to one year in a cool environment. Female bed bugs lay between one to five eggs each day and can lay up to 500 eggs in their lifetime.
Habits: Bed bugs are considered to be nocturnal pests as they are more active at night, when the host is asleep and moves around less. Found in small crevices such as cracks and seems as well as on sheets, furniture and even outlets, bed bugs are able to be transported from one location to another with ease. They are often found in establishments such as hotels, motels, and offices, infesting luggage and briefcases.
